I'm Yuecheng

I will earn B.Eng in Industrial Design (2019-2023) at Zhejiang University in Jul. 2023. During my undergrad studies, I joined many interesting research projects, and among them, I'm most interested in tangible interaction design (like creating various kinds of physical prototypes, doing material experiments, etc.) and also data visualization (derive insights from data, tell interesting stories with data, etc.)

Since I love using visualizations to tell ideas, I will present my design path during undergrad using data visualization. Enjoy:)

Overview: From the technology perspective, I explore the possibilities of using smart responsive materials in the pneumatic context. This work presents a smart soft pneumatic valve that is water-responsive. It can realize logic control based on environmental humidity degree without the need for electricity, hard sensors or computer control.

Material Redesign of Traditional Sugar Figure Blowing Art

Material design | Human Food Interaction | User Research & Testing

Overview: To preserve and revive the sugar figure blowing art, I want to attract GenZ by allowing them to learn about this tradition through hands-on experience. Traditionally, this art features a steep learning curve, and thus I design a new sugar material with a lower glass transition temperature that makes this art easier to learn for novices. This new material allows safe and easy diy experience and brings about many interesting interaction capacitites.

Cheap and Reconfigurable Rapid Prototyping of Haptic Interface Based on Paper

Personal Fabrication in HCI | Material Design | Rapid Prototyping

Overview: Although haptic feeling is an important aspect of prototyping, student designers may find it difficult to incorporate haptic feedback into their demos. Based on magnetic elastomers and paper, I design an easy-to-fabricate, cheap, customizable, and reconfigurable physical interface toolkit with haptic feedback. It allows designers to easily include haptic feedback in their prototypes.
